Classic Motorcycle front forks toolbag.
After continuous requests from customers, I have decided to enter the motorcycle leather goods arena. Since I dont own a motorcycle myself, I had to do a lot of research and development to arrive at practical solutions and a number of my clients were very helpfull in reviewing my products. If you are an experienced motorcycle owner/user, and you have any comments on how to improve my existing designs, or even new designs, I would love to hear from you.
My point of departure for designing motorcycle gear was exactly the same as when I designed my bicycle range: practicality, aesthetics, quality and affordability.
Practicality speaks for itself. The product must do what it was designed for and it must be user friendly. When you strap one of my bags to your motor bike, it must perform the function that you intended for it. If it doesnt, and you need it modified, please contact me so we can discuss the matter.
Aesthetics. My work must enhance the overall appearance of any motorcycle they are fitted to, no matter what the brand or value. It does not help if the item is only of great practical value, the appearance on your bike is equally important.
Quality. I only use the highest quality, full grain leather that I can buy in Australia. Full grain meaning the leather is unchanged by sanding or buffing in order to have a uniform appearance, which is what most upholstery and clothing manufacturers want.
Because full grain leather still retains the very top layer of the skin, it is the maximum strength in leather, but it may also have certain imperfections, such as small scars. These add to the overall appearance of leather as a 100% natural product.
All buckles I use are stainless steel for a lifetime of use. All stitching are done by hand, using the saddle stitch method and waxed nylon braid, renown for rot-resistance and strength.
Price. I cut no corners with my materials or workmanship, so if you can get it cheaper somewhere else, compare apples with apples. I know my guarantee is unmatched anywhere.
Toolbag safety. The issue of the safety of your tool bag on your machine, while left unattended is of growing concern to many of my clients. How can you quietly enjoy a nice cuppa or meal with your fellow enthusiasts, if you worry about your leather tool bag “finding a new home”, at the hands of an opportunistic thief? many of my clients are using cable ties, looped through the slots of the bag and around the frame somewhere. Cable ties merely slow a thief down, and don’t discourage them. Even a small pair of nail clippers can work their way through a cable tie.
I have come up with a solution, which I think is probably the most secure anti theft solution for your prized tool bags, unless off course you take them off and keep them with you at every pit-stop. Secure, but very impractical.
So, enter an extremely strong, 2mm steel cable, with ends swaged in loops. These cables are used exactly as you would your cable ties, but the looped ends are joined by a small padlock (not included). The padlock could be arranged to fit inside the bag, so its not visible from the outside. These cables can only be cut with heavy duty pliers, making it very secure against the opportunistic thief.
They sell for 14.00AU, which included postage anywhere in Australia. For my international clients a variety of postage options are available. And if you combine your purchase with a bag, more discounts apply.
Throw over motor bike saddlebags.
These classic designed bags not only enhance the appearance of your vintage cafe racer, but are equally at home on any motorbike with a suitable seat arrangement. And if your seat cannot easily accomodate them, then we can always make a plan by omitting the yoke, and adding attachment points for straps to coincide with suitable points on your frame. Build in sturdy, genuine leather, and featuring hand stitching customary to all my work, these bags are designed to give you many years of service. Currently I offer them in black or dark brown. All buckles are stainless steel. The featured bags are about 300mm long, 270 mm heigh and 100mm wide. But, as I have mentioned, they can be custom made to any size.
The advantage of the throw over motor cycle saddlebags is the ease of removal. When you have reached your destination, you undo a couple of straps, and the whole unit lifts off to be carried to safety. Added to this is off course the timeless elegance and vintage appearance that enhances any motorbike. This specific set is selling for 280.00AU, plus postage.
The “Vintage” range of front fork tool bags.
The standard size of these bags are approximately 250mm long, 80mm wide and 120mm high. They fit most front forks that are 200mm centre to centre. The vintage bags sell for $65.00AU for the standard range, and $70.00AU for the De Luxel (rivets and concho).
Because of their popularity I am constantly customising these bags for clients. I also make them in larger sizes. These bags are covered by my usual product guarantee.
The dark brown chopper leather bag , shown here i the standard as well as special models are also very popular. The brown sometimes is a bit darker than the photo, depending on the batch. Unfortunately I dont have any control over that, The chopper is a lovely, oily leather, no gloss and looks really good.
The following bags are made from a light brown leather. This leather is vegetable tanned, and very popular amongst saddle makers when they construct horse saddles. They are also available in either the standard or special models.
These front fork tool bags can also be easily adapted to be used on handle bar risers, or even from the rear blinkers. All that I change is the strap configuration, and off you go. Please note that I dont charge extra for any modifications, only when the extra leather used exceed about 10%, but even the I am quite flexible.
Because of the popularity of the front forks tool bags, I have often been asked to make modifications to the standard design. Here are some interesting ones that I have recently done for clients. Below is a bag with the number “78”written in rivets on the closing flap. This number had some special meaning for my client, and he wanted it displayed on the bag. The numbers was created on computer, transferred to paper and then on to the leather.
The black bag here under was build for a client with a trike, the forks obviously much wider than the standard motor bike. I have supported the bag with a length of aluminium bar, not visible from the outside, to make sure it doesnt distort in the wind because of its extra length. Total length of the bag, 420mm!
The next tool bag was modified so the client could mount it on the side frame, underneath the seat.
For that purpose, I added another strap. When the bag exceeds about 350mm in length, I usually add an alluminium strip to add rigidity to the bag.
Throw over panniers or saddlebags have for long been a favourite of riders, whether you are riding around town and taking care of chores, or even for longer touring trips. The classic looks of these bags in leather have withstood the test of time, and vintage bike owners but also those with more modern bikes all seem to be drawn to the class and beauty of these bags in leather. They are easy to remove, store conveniently sitting upright next to each other, just like two small suitcases and when taken care off can provide you with many years of excellent service. I have recently made these bags for a 1968 Triumph Bonneville. Measurements are roughly 300mm wide, 270mm high and 100mm deep. I can change the mountings and measurements to your own requirements. The bags in the photo sell for 280.00AU, plus postage.
Other custom work possible are bags longer than the usual bag, to accomodate custom built motor bikes, or even smaller, half size bags.
Side or frame mounted saddle bags, especially for vintage motorbikes can be custom built and fitted to suit any motorbike.
Swing arm bags.
Another very popular style bag is the swing arm bag. Available for most motorbikes, and in black or dark brown, these very unique bags add a certain touch of class to any motorbike. Once again, these bags are custom built for every motorbike, to ensure a perfect fit and functionality. They are available with the extra rivet, concho and thong decoration, or without. Also, as all my project, made with stainless steel buckles and polyester braided thread. Completely hand sewn, off course. Prices start at $160.00AU, plus postage.
Please read my warranty on my first page. I will gladly fix any problem, even if as a result of your doing (accident etc) for free, if fixable, and if panels needs replacement, I will do that at a materials cost only. The client is responsible for postage both ways.
